Frenchtons have the best qualities of both their French Bulldog and their Boston Terrier heritage. Frenchtons often enjoy better health than their purebred parents as they inherit the healthier genetics from each parent. They are more active than the French Bulldog and tend to have a moderate activity level. They love to play with other animals, people, and toys. They are known to jump and learn new tricks quickly. Frenchtons are very intelligent and all have unique personalities. These little guys make wonderful companions for families with small children, families with teens, couples, or individuals. Regardless of the family situation, Frenchtons requie time every day to play, run off extra energy and snuggle.

Frenchtons are a designer breed which is fairly new. The overall objective of this breed is to reduce the risk of genetic disorders while maintaining the loved physical appearance of the two breeds. There are two recognized types of Frenchtons:

Standard Frenchton the offspring of a registered Boston Terrier (mother) and a registered French Bulldog (father). Standard Frenchtons will have fewer chances of health issues. They are a 50/50 blend of both parents and sometimes favor one parent more than the other. They tend to have a slightly more bulky build than a Boston Terrier adding a bit more weight but they are not as heavy as a French Bulldog. The puppy’s coats can range in a variety of colors from those found on standard and colored Boston Terriers to the variety of colors found in French Bulldogs. The end result is a beautifully marked puppy, with a bulky, bully build, flat head with large bat like ears a snub nose, and a tapered body leading to a narrow rear. Standard Frenchtons are often less active than a Boston Terrier but much more active than a French Bulldog. They are very sociable and great pets for everyone willing to spend the time allowing them to play and exercise.

3/4 Frenchton the offspring of a standard Frenchton (mother) and a registered French Bulldog (father). 3/4 Frenchtons have fewer chances of health issues compared to pure bred French Bulldogs but they are at a slightly higher risk than a standard Frenchton. This small increase is due to the additional French Bulldog DNA they have. Since the French Bulldog genetics are more dominate, ¾ Frenchtons often favor the French Bulldog in their appearance. They tend to be closer to a French Bulldog in weight and height. So, owners should expect a heavier,  pet which can be up to 28 pounds and 15 inches in height. They come in a wide variety of colors from both their Boston Terrier and Bully heritage. They are often compact in size with a flat head, large-standing bat ears, and a snub nose. The tapered body of a larger more bulky build in the front and a more narrow shorter legged rear is more pronounced with a 3/4 Frenchton. 3/4 Frenchtons are more active than French Bulldogs and might favor the more relaxed, lazy side the bulldog nature.

Both types of Frenchtons will vary slightly with a preference towards on parents’ appearance more than the other. However, a 3/4 Frenchton will most often favor the French Bulldog heritage more. Standard and 3/4 Frenchtons weigh between 18 and 25 pounds, and are between 12 and 15 inches tall. short coats, snub noses, short tails, flat heads, large bat ears, and tapered bulky body are characteristics of all Frenchtons.

Frenchtons are often quite. They don’t seem to bark much as an adult unless they are playing of the sense an intruder. Frenchtons tolerate heat fairly well but both standard Frenchtons and 3/4 Frenchtons should be an indoor pet with air conditioning. The more pronounced the snub nose and the heavier they are the more sensitive they are to the heat. Also, it is important to know that the shape and size of a Frenchton’s body makes it impossible for them to swim. They should never be thrown into water and should be monitored around water sources such as lakes and pools if they don't seem fearful.

The choice between a standard Frenchton or a 3/4 Frenchton depends on your personal preferences and what you are searching for in a new pet.
